There are several methods that you can use in order to properly disinfect the item. To determine which method is best for you, read each one.
Method 1 Rinsing After Retrieving
1. Get a pair of rubber gloves
It is important to protect your hands from the bacteria that can be spread by soiled toilet tissue. Rubber gloves are the best protection. Rubber gloves are a great way to protect yourself in an emergency. Even if you don’t live in the same house, you might not have one. You should evaluate whether the risk of dropping something in the toilet is worth it. Protect yourself with a bag or paper towel.

No matter how well you protect yourself from the bacteria, you should do your best to get the item out of the bathroom as quickly as possible. Keep your item in your grasp. There is a good chance that the item you are trying retrieve from the toilet will go down the drain.
3. Rinse the item under hot water
If the item you took from the toilet is not electronic, you’ll need to wash it off. You put yourself in danger if you don’t thoroughly rinse it. Turn on the water heater and wait until it heats up. The hotter the water, the better. You should use soap to clean the infected item. Then, heat the water. If the item that you dropped is not waterproof or electronic, then rinsing it with hot water might not be the best way to disinfect it.
4. Don’t forget to wash your hands
It is important to avoid any infection. Even if rubber gloves are on, it is still important to wash your hands well. Be sure to clean between your fingers and under your fingernails. These are the most likely places for bacteria to hide. After you’ve done this, your item should be clean.
Method 2 Using Disinfectant Products
1. Use a disinfectant spray
Get a chemical disinfectant spray strong enough to kill any bacteria on the item. To clean the bacteria off of the item’s surface, you can use a disinfectant wiping cloth. If the item has uneven angles or a rough surface, spray the disinfectant to reach every corner and crevice.
2. 2. Let it sit before you dry it
Most people make the biggest mistake of rinsing off the disinfectant immediately after spraying it. Let the disinfectant sit for at least two minutes. The disinfectant will continue to remove any bacteria on the surface. To ensure that all disinfectant has been removed, wipe the entire item with a towel. You should rinse the item with water again and then dry it.
Method 3 Sanitizing With Rubbing Alcohol
1. Get some Cotton Balls and Rubbing Alcohol
It is important to have both a package with cotton balls and a bottle isopropylalcool for this method. It is very effective in disinfecting more delicate objects.

You can then coat the cotton ball in isopropyl alcohol by removing the cap and dipping the ball in alcohol.
Keep it in place for a few seconds to allow the alcohol to soak into the fibers. You can get rid of excess alcohol by shaking the cotton ball several times. Don’t let the cotton ball get wet. Alcohol could leak out and get into the electronics.

To remove the bacteria, use the cotton ball that you have soaked in alcohol. This is a great way to clean sensitive electronic items. Once you’re done cleaning, dry the item with a towel. The isopropyl alcohol evaporates quickly so it shouldn’t take too much time.
Method 4 Boil the Item
1. Get a large pot for boiling
The first step in boiling is to find a large enough pot for your item. This method is not recommended for items that aren’t sturdy enough. Once you have selected the perfect pot, heat the water on medium-high heat. Wait for it to simmer. When the water temperature is at the right level, you can place the infected object into the pot.

Next, use a strainer/tongs to lower the infected item into boiling water. You can place the item in boiling water for up to 20 minutes. Boiling water will kill all bacteria and microbes attached to the item due to its high temperature. It is important to not leave the item in boiling water for too long as it can become damaged by the heat.
3. Set it aside and let it dry
Once all microbial bugs have been eliminated, you can now take the disinfected item from the water and shake it around a bit.
Wrap the item in a clean, dry towel and allow it to air dry. If your item has a cover, or lid, you should leave it off to allow airflow to get in and prevent mildew from forming.

It is important to disinfect everything that comes in contact with the bacteria in your toilet. You will need to decide which method is best for you based on the item’s size, durability, and sensitiveness.
